- How much should you tip at a US restaurant?
- For table service, 15% is the customary floor, 18–20% is standard, and more signals exceptional service. Tipping for counter service is optional, and delivery commonly runs 10–15% plus any fees the platform charges separately.
- Do you tip on the pre-tax amount or the total?
- The traditional base is the pre-tax subtotal, since sales tax goes to the state rather than the server. Many people tip on the after-tax total for simplicity — on a typical bill the difference is small, and either is acceptable.
- How does splitting the bill work?
